Accessibility Statement

The aim of this Accessibility Statement is to give an accurate description of the facilities at Pennine View Park and the local area to anyone who has Visual, Audio and Mobility disabilities.

General

Pennine View Park is situated on the edge of the historic Market town of Kirkby Stephen. The centre of town is about 1 mile from site accessible via a street lit pavement down the main road or via a more scenic but accessible route along the Northern Viaduct Round walk.

Kirkby Stephen is relatively flat and Car parks have disabled parking spaces. Pennine View Park is totally flat on its roads, grass areas and pitches. The main bathrooms and facilities don’t have any steps to access. A small ramp or two steps can be found while accessing our Main reception with a lip on the door frame. The Carpark is tarmac. The camping fields are also flat with hardcore access roads, the camping fields are accessed up a short tarmac slope. We can provide camping pitches without any slope access on request. The roads also act as paths therefore are easily seen or ‘Tapped’ by the partially sighted.

Roads

Roads within Pennine View Park are limited to 5mph. The road system is small thus reducing the ability to speed. We operate a barrier access system to the park so cars have to slow on entrance, this also ensure only guests and staff can drive on site.

Mobile Phones

Pennine View Park is within an area of good mobile phone coverage. Please ask at reception if you need assistance or if you need to use the phone in the event of an emergency.

Touring Pitches

80 pitches are shared by Touring Caravans, Motor Homes and Tents. All pitches are on level ground with parking for one car alongside the pitch. The pitches are large, many set in their own boundaries. All pitches have EHU and all are within 100m of water points and refuse points. We can assign pitches close to amenities block if required.

Touring Park Amenities

The Amenity Block (toilet facilities) has push/pull handle doors. The main bathroom doors do operate a code lock in the evening and overnight. The main entrance is virtually level and the bathrooms contain no steps, the cubicle showers gently slope towards the drain at the rear with no steps.

Two large family bathrooms containing most disabled facilities and a baby change are available and accessible from outside. the disabled facilities do not have code locks but have lever handles doors. These bathrooms are not reserved wholly for the disabled. The disabled bathrooms contains a level shower with rails and a mounted shower seat. The bathroom doors are wide enough for wheelchair access with sufficient internal space. These bathrooms are accessed via an enclosed ramp to the door.

Mountain Pods

Pennine View Park has 3 Mountain Pods for rental. Two of the pods are wooden structures with integrated benches with mattresses which can be turned into a large bed, suitable for up to 5 persons, the smaller pod has a large mattress/bench at the rear which can be used as a double bed, there is a small double pull out mattress underneath which can be used for children. The pods also contain a fridge and workspace. The Pods are set on a small decking area which is one step above floor level, the door frames also have lips.

Assistance Dogs

Pennine View Park is dog friendly. Dogs are welcome on site and should be kept on a lead at all times, any fouling should be encouraged off site but cleared up straight away. We have a field next to the park which is recommended for dog walking, it is accessible through a step free gate at the bottom of the park. The field is undulating.

We recommend the Viaduct trail as a level, pathed dog walk, suitable for wheelchairs. This is accessed about 250m down the road from Pennine View Park.

Doctors, Dentists & Hospitals

Numbers for the local services are available in the Amenity Block or from Reception.

Shops

Our shop serving essentials such as Milk, Eggs, Newspapers, sweets and other groceries can save you a journey if you just need something small. Kirkby Stephen itself has numerous shops for groceries, food, gifts and hardware.

Local transport

Trains: Kirkby Stephen railway station is 1 mile from Pennine View Park. It has a paved footpath (off the main road) all the way however the path it is extremely hilly and we would not recommend it for regular wheelchair users without assistance.

Buses: Kirkby Stephen has a very limited bus service but they do stop very close to Pennine View Park so can easily be accessed. Current bus routes and timetables can be found from Cumbria Classic Coaches and Westmorland Dales Bus.

Taxis: Three Taxi companies are based in Kirkby Stephen some with wheelchair capabilities. The names and telephone numbers of current disabled friendly Taxi companies are available from Reception.
