New footpath created to access local beauty spot

A brand new permissive path has been created which now provides a vital walking link between Jubilee Park and Stenkrith Park, in turn creating access for all to local beauty spot High Stenkrith.

In collaboration with Walkers are Welcome, Kirkby Stephen Parish Council and The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, we have given permissive access to walkers from the base of Jubilee Park across to the public footpath which skirts along the top banks of the River Eden and the area which is locally known as High Stenkrith.

Previously this footpath was only accessible via three very steep sets of steps and a narrow walkway along the banks of the river, which effectively cut off the area for many people of differing mobility. By creating a footpath from the base of Jubilee park, walkers can now bypass all the restrictive parts of the path and enjoy the local views of this particularly spectacular part of the river, whilst linking into further walks up towards Nateby and Mallerstang.

The new path also creates safe and virtually road free link between the two parks, it is hoped this will help with the future regeneration plans for Jubilee Park.

We would like to express our thanks to all the work and assistance provided from Walkers are Welcome, Kirkby Stephen Parish Council and The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, as the new path now sits with the Westmorland Dales boundary.
